How do I change my username?
Go to My Preferences and click the 
button next to your existing username, then choose the new username you'd like to use. If you don't see the pencil, then message one of the admins and ask them to change your username.
How do I become a moderator or admin?
In general, the more you engage with the forum (e.g., visit, read, write, reply, like) the more trust you are given. And the more welcoming, helpful, thoughtful, and respectful you are, the more likely you are to be nominated for a leadership position. Read How to become a leader on the forum for more details.
