Aggregate and Google authentication

Hi,

I recently did a Tomcat installation of ODK Aggregate on a machine for local data storage (not for cloud service integration). I was alrmed to discover that Google have deprecated OpenID and that there is no way around this issue for the general user. I've read reams of stuff from Google and others regarding how to redelevelop the software to enable validation but I'm not a developer and I don't have the time to figure out which bit of the programme I need to break into and modify even if it were possible!.

So my question is this: when is a stand-alone, Tomcat, server version of ODK Aggregate going to be released that 'will be' compatible with the current Google validation so that we can validate ODK Aggreagte in order that I can start adding user accounts - because at present it's as good as useless?

Thanks

Piper.

Follow-on notes:
(1) you need to ensure that the zip you end up with has the same directory
structure as the zip that you start with -- on Windows, it is easy to get
an extra directory inserted into the result.
(2) users have reported that zip on MacOSX does not work, and you need to
use the java jar command ( jar cf ../myjarfile.jar * )

··· -------------- Yes, this change by Google has been very abrupt.

Unfortunately, Google's new mechanism requires a publicly reachable domain
name for the Tomcat server, so it is of questionable utility.

The next ODK Aggregate release will ask and set up an ODK Aggregate login,
and the Google OpenId login will likely be deprecated. This means that it
will be harder to give remote assistance in some cases.

Our next ODK Aggregate release is on hold until we complete the ODK 2.0
interfaces.

Piper,

The Aggregate VM is a stand-alone, Tomcat, server version of ODK Aggregate.
