Anyone using a Nomad Trimble

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone is using a Nomad Trimble - we have bought one
and we are not getting very accurate results in its testing.

I have been testing with an app called "distance and area management"
which allows the recording of a walked track purely using the gps and
it has no base data under it. All the rugged mobile phones are
recording quite accurate lines, but the trimble not only takes over 5
minutes to get a lock on its location, but when it starts to record a
measured line its very erratic.

Just wondering if anyone else is using a Trimble and would like to
share info as I am disapointed in the results and concerned I have
either set up wrong or I have a faulty device. I have been talking to
http://sdgsystems.com where I got it from but would like to make
contact with another end user.

Thanks

Jon

Jon,

I'm not sure about getting a lock with the trimbles. The initial lock on
many phones does take a few minutes and then gets a lot faster so you might
want to try subsequent locks to see if things improve.

On the tracing thing, since the Trimble is so accurate it might be normal
that if you are trying to do a trace the lines will be a lot more "erratic"
or not smooth.

When doing a trace too you might want to try and just do corners of the
area you're trying to map and not just traces. It really depends on your
use case though.
