Best practices to identify the interviewers using ODK Collect? Auth, barcode?

Hi there,

The issue: A tablet (ODK Collect) is used by many interviewers, and it is
difficult to perfectly relate the form submission <-> interviewer <->
tablet.

What are the best practices ODK folks use to identify the interviewers who
filled the forms? At my company, we currently use an ID that each
interviewer enters it as a response to a question that is added to the any
questionnaire during form design. But this brings issues because entering
an ID, even a short one, is error prone.

An ODK username for each data collectors seems to be another solution, but
has the issue that some may enter the wrong username and the server cannot
verify it because the users dont have internet access during fieldwork. Any
idea on this?

Another idea is to use the Barcode widget. Each interviewer is equipped
with a barcode, and after each form completion the interviewers scan their
badge.

What about other solutions? What are ODK folks are using currently?

Regards,
Piqo

Piqo,

Assuming you have one interviewer per device, you can use the device
ID. http://xlsform.org/#metadata. It works offline and doesn't require
the user to manually enter it.

Alternatively, you can use a select one of enumerator names or ids.
