Briefcase failed to pull pictures from questionnaires

Dear all,

I didn't check when pulling the instances from the phones with Briefcase
and now that i have found the time to analyse the answers I have found the
that the pictures made within the questionnaire were not pulled by ODK
briefcase. Now that data is impossible to be retrieved from the phones used
as they were formatted. I am planning to do more rounds within the panel
study and I would not like this to happen again, do you know what can I do
differently?

Thanks,

carlos

Always verify that the Pull Status reports SUCCESS.

This should have reported FAILURE if the media did not copy over.

Hi Mitch,

The pull status was SUCCESS and all the audio files were pulled
successfully, however for some reason the pictures were not.

What version of ODK Collect are you using?

I have no idea why this would occur, or how to reproduce it.

If you are copying the data off using drag-and-drop from an Android 4.x
device to Windows, be advised that we recommend zipping up the entire ODK
directory on the device (using, e.g., OI File Manager), then copying that
zip over to your computer (as a single file), and unzipping it on the
computer. The drivers for viewing files on an Android 4.x device are very
very bad for Windows, and we have certainly observed them not detecting
files that were actually present. For large data collection efforts,
creating the one big zip and transferring that one file is far more robust
than relying on the driver to properly report all files on the device.

If you are using Android 4.3 or higher devices, you should upgrade to ODK
Collect 1.4.3, as there were some media capture / choose issues fixed for
Android 4.4.2.
