Building a flexible ODK tool

Hey all,

We've been having a conceptual problem in designing our tool and we wanted to reach out to you for advice. We will be using ODK on tablets to audit medical records in clinics in South Africa. One issue we have been warned about is that the information is going to come from many different sources that will vary across facilities and often some sources will only be available at certain times. Because of this, we need to be able to collect information at different orders.

It seems like ODK works really well when you collect information sequentially, but is not really designed to collect information in different orders. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any capabilities that would allow you to skip to different parts of the sutvey or return to different parts of the survey without having to scroll through the entire survey (and risk skipping sections)?

Thanks, Sean

ODK Collect has a hierarchy screen that allows you to randomly jump through
the form. Also, for this type of survey, you likely need to defer all
validation of inputs until the end of the form. This is an option under
General Settings -- Constraint Processing behavior. Combined, this will
give you a somewhat awkward mechanism to accomplish this with ODK 1.x tools.

One of the goals of ODK 2.0 Survey -- to allow user-directed form
navigation and also retain strong validation of collected data.
