Char limits with strings in Collect

Hi folks,

I just realized the old 255 character limit appears to have been removed at
some point in Collect. It used to be that a user had to override it with
`odk:length="600" in the bind. Previous discussions
https://groups.google.com/d/topic/opendatakit/2lcMAMnGoTE/discussion showed
that there was a reason for limiting it to 255 in the first place, but I
couldn't find any reference in release notes or issues why this limit was
lifted or if it was set to a new (arbitrary) number. As far as I understand
XML 1.0 doesn't set any limits, but I'm not sure if that's the case with
Collect at the moment.

Thanks,
Tino

Hi Tino,

The length isn't there for Collect. It's a hint to Aggregate to
allocate more space for the database table. See Datastore String
Length section at https://opendatakit.org/help/form-design/guidelines
for more.

What behavior are you seeing?

Yaw

Hi Yaw,

My bad, I thought this was a limitation within Collect in the past but I
see now that this only ever applied to Aggregate.

Thanks,
Tino
