Collect not saving submissions?

Hi all,

One of my projects is having trouble with submissions saving in ODK Collect. We have a team completing a survey on ASUS MeMO Pad tablets and trying to send us results. Because Wifi is not possible but broadband is at the site, instead of using Aggregate, we are having the team copy the entire "odk" folder from the tablet to zip and email to us. We've used this method on previous projects and it's worked fine. On this one, however, there seems to be a problem with the data. When they look in the "odk" folder on the tablets, media generated by the survey (images of signatures we collect) are present, but the results to any other answers are not - there is no .xml completed survey file. All of the saved forms look fine on the tablet in Collect, though, and everything is marked as finalized. Any ideas what could cause this issue and how to work around?

Thanks,
Seth

No idea.

Did you set up multiple user profiles (separate individual users) on the
device?
We have not tested ODK Collect on devices with multiple user profiles.

Also, note that bulk copying of many files off the devices using the USB
connection is not robust. If you've been doing that, it is entirely likely
that the PC driver failed to detect and grab all the files.

It is better to zip up the directory on the device, using an Android file
management tool on the device, giving it a unique name (e.g.,
odk-2016-01-28.zip) and then copy that uniquely-named zip file over to your
PC for e-mailing (or e-mail it directly from the device).

Thanks, Mitch. I'll look into zipping the directory on the device, but the mystery is still why the files are not saving on the device at all. Even when we complete new surveys and go directly into the "instances" folder on the tablet to check them, the submission folders just have the signature image files.

Seth,

The files are likely saving, but if you are looking at the SD card
through a computer, it's very likely you won't get an accurate file
list. Those devices drivers are super buggy.

Try a device reboot, then zip (or check the file listing of) the odk
folder with an on-device tool and see if the instances are there.
