Comments in ODK

Hi All,

I am exploring if we can comment a command or group of commands in ODK.
Sometime we want to comment a block of commands or a single command. Also,
for documentation if we can write few sentences in ODK.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

Many thanks,

Surajit

I do not understand what you are asking.

If you are using XLSForm, create a new column, with a heading of, e.g.,
comment and write your comments.
I believe XLSForm will ignore columns that it doesn't understand how to
process (but it will complain if you write in a column without a column
heading).

Thanks Sundt,

I was looking for inserting comments in the program. Ideally, if we could
write 'comment' under column 'type' and write in the subsequent columns. It
seems from your response that ODK don't have any option to insert comments
in the program.

Thanks, Yaw.

In most of the programming languages have option to insert comments in the
program, and they are very helpful when the program becomes long and
complex.

Really appreciate the clear answer that ODK don't have such option yet.

Dear Thiendao,

Great suggestion!

Really appreciate for sharing your experience.

Shall check this out in ODK program.

Many thanks,

Surajit

I do not understand what you mean by "program".

See the "note" field type. Perhaps this is what you want?

Surajit,

To clarify, if you want to comment as a way to disable rows, you'll
need to add code to the pyxform.

If you want to add comments on what individual rows do, then do what
Mitch suggested and add a column called "comments" or whatever and
write those comments there.

Dear Surajit,
I may misunderstood your ideas but if your want to disable 1 row, I do believe you just need to add 1 more column in the xlsform with the heading "disabled" then type "yes" in that column on the row you want to disable.
I often do that when making some experimental form versions, if you know what I mean.
You can see more details here: http://opendatakit.org/wp-content/uploads/static/sample.xls

Sounds like you want to comment/disable certain rows? Currently not
possible, but it should be easy to add. The relevant code base is at
https://github.com/XLSForm/pyxform.
