Data Manipulation using ODK

Hi,

I am an Agricultural Researcher. I have data available after 3 years of
research from various aspects. I am going to using ODK further in my
research. The query I have is , with all the available data gathered and
refined properly in spreadsheets, will I be able to do data manipulation
from different sheets from a spreadsheet using ODK. If, so, can you tell me
which function to use.

Thanks,
Shriram

Hi Shriram,

I'm not sure that I understand what you want to do with your existing data.
But if you want to reference that data in new ODK forms (as multiple-choice
options, as information notes, as repeat-group counts, etc.), then you
currently have two choices: (1) wait for ODK 2.0, which will have this kind
of functionality, or (2) use SurveyCTO, which has support for pre-loading
data today (at www.surveycto.com). Also, Nafundi has recently added ODK
support for loading multiple-choice options from .csv files, so that might
work for you in the latest ODK Collect. I'm not sure if that's become
documented and supported yet, but Yaw may respond with some suggestions for
how you might use that.

Best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Let me break it down to earth. What are the data manipulation techniques
(Regression, Correlation, etc) available in ODK? I got familiar with
collect within a couple of days but I am not sure what kind of analysis I
can do with the ODK.

Thanks,
Shriram

Hi Shiram,

ODK will let you export data to Google Fusion Tables and you can set up
some basic data-analysis and/or -visualization there. But the bottom line
is that ODK is for the actual data-collection -- not for data-analysis or
-manipulation. ODK hands off the data, then it's up to you what to do with
it. In my projects, we use Stata. You can use whatever tools or techniques
you wish.

A standard workflow is: use ODK Briefcase to export data to .csv files,
then take it from there.

Best,

Chris
