Devices and general usage questions

Hi All,
I am looking to use ODK to survey people in Kenya. I need to buy about 10
android devices. What are the minimum requirements to run ODK successfully
on a droid device, aka which version of android, how much storage, etc?
Does anyone have any recommendations for devices? Also, the survey area
does not have wi-fi or internet access as it is a rural site. I would like
to be able to download forms from a computer to the devices, and then
download the filled/finalized forms back on to a computer. Does anyone have
any advice on the best way to do this and bypass aggregate or briefcase, or
how to use them without wi-fi? Thank you for your help and advice in
advance!
Cheers,
Sarah

Sarah,

ODK Collect works on pretty much any device running Android 1.6+ with
"external" storage -- usually an SD card, but some devices with
internal storage (e.g., the Nexus 4) work as well. How much storage
you need depends on how big your forms are and if you'll be using
multimedia. I'd guess that for most non-multimedia deployments, you
shouldn't need more a few hundred MB.

Those are the minimum requirements. You can meet the recommended
requirements by using any recent Android phone available for sale
today. I like the Nexus 4 phone or Nexus 7 tablet. If those are
expensive, you can also check Amazon.com for good unlocked Android
phones.

ODK was designed to work in places with no network connectivity. To
download the forms to the device running ODK Collect, use USB or SD
card or whatever to get them to the /odk/forms folder on external
storage. To pull the completed forms from the device, use ODK
Briefcase (http://opendatakit.org/use/briefcase/).

http://opendatakit.org/help/training-guides has links to lots of
deployment advice. I recommend you read through that.
