Does the requirement for "unique variable name" apply across groups of answer choices or only within a group?

I am putting together an Excel file to convert for the first time and have
a somewhat basic question so please forgive my ignorance. The documentation
says:
"The name column specifies the unique variable name for that entry. No
two entries can have the same name."

Does this apply only within a group of answer choices, or for the whole
survey? For example, I have a question that asks the name of the
cooperative that the interviewee belongs to. One name is San Jorge. There
is another question that asks the name of the community where the
interviewee lives. The village of San Jorge is one of the options. So, can
I use SanJorge for the variable name for both sets of answer choices, or do
I need to modify it to something like SanJorge_coop and SanJorge_pueblo?

Thanks!

Hi Erica,

I believe that requirement is there more for question names than
choice names. For choice names, I believe they only have to be unique
in that set of choices. Test to confirm.
