Excel form uploading and server set up

Dear all,

I have a few questions which I require your attention for a while.

  1. I make ODK forms using excel. If I don't have a server like that for
google (appspot.com), how can I upload the finished form to the tablet or
smart phone. On that note how to I download the form from the tablet after
    answering the required questions.

  2. I stand corrected but I know one has to pay for the appspot.com server
for one to be able to download and upload forms. How much does one pay for
the server?are there any other cheap and secure servers? Is there a free
    server which doesn't charge?

  3. How does one create a private server? If you do have a private server,
there are times when you have one questionnaire but when you download it
from the server using ODK briefcase, it comes as 3 questionnaires instead
of just one complete questionnaire which is weird. so it becomes hard to
especially analyze if one forms has some figures but without the identifier
variables and the other form has the identifier variables. I know on the
appspot.com server the answer are appearing as a a LINK then you can
publish and download it an excel sheet. Then you just link the sheets using
either excel by defining the 2 separate sheets first or by using Ms Access.
But what do you do when the ODK briefcase and it downloads one
    questionnaire as 3.

(1) After connecting the device to your computer via USB in Media Transfer
mode (MTP), you can copy the form to the /sdcard/odk/forms directory. See
the "Pulling data directly from..." sections under ODK Briefcase
https://opendatakit.org/use/briefcase/ for information on using MTP. But,
in this case, you would be copying your form definition file into the
/sdcard/okd/forms/ directory.

(2) server costs should be minimal for small surveys, and potentially free.
I have added more information on costs here:

Try it, and see if you can work for free.

(3) ODK Briefcase creates a CSV for each repeat group in a survey, and you
need to join the repeat group rows to the main survey by matching the
PARENT_KEY field of the repeat group with the KEY field of the enclosing
repeat group or main survey (if not nested within a repeat group).
