Experiences with users new to smart phones?

There's a group I'm working with that is considering deploying ODK with a
group of enumerators that has had little to no exposure to smart phones.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with ODK in such environments in the
past?

Yes. A day or two of training can address that. Dont' confuse them further
with "smartphones." If they've used phones before, they can easily manage
with PDAs and Smart Phones.

Younger people are usually more adaptable (should take about 3-4 hours to
get used to it).

There have been lots of groups that have successfully trained users
with little to no previous smartphone experience. Examples include
indigenous groups in Brazil and Congo to many health care workers in
Africa and Asia. Some of these groups have been gracious enough to
share training guides which are available on the ODK website.
http://opendatakit.org/help/training-guides In 2009, when ODK started
it was the common case that the users had not had exposure to smart
phones (as Android had been launched less than a year); however, this
did not adversely affect any deployment that I know of. With a little
bit of training users catch on quick. There are lots of success
stories on our blog.
