Features of your mobile data collection solution

Dear Mr or Mrs,

I am sorry for the second mail, the first was without subject.
My name is Bostjan Pirs and I am a public health research intern at Imperial College London. Regarding my current research work I am interested in using your mobile data collection solution. I was hoping you could answer a few questions about your solution:

  1. What is the update period of your software?

  2. Can I deploy your software on my own server?

a. If yes, how easy is to set up my own server – do I need any programming/scripting skills or knowledge? Or do I just install a package from you – of course after having server ready (for example installed apache, MySQL, PHP or other necessary systems)?

  1. Do you provide an API to communicate with other systems?

a. Can the API be used to write and fetch data to or from the database?

b. Is the API documented and open to anyone to use?

  1. Does your solution enable basic data validation - at least checking for a presence of a response and differentiating between number and string

  2. Does your solution enable me to design forms with branching logic?

  3. I will be using system in a public health research (not clinical trials) - do you feel your solution could be used in a public health or health care environment?

  4. What type of delivery modes of the surveys to the mobile devices or tablets do you provide (link to a webpage or a dedicated mobile app or something else)?

a. if you use OS-specific mobile app, which OSes do you support?
Your answer is most appreciated. Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

Bostjan Pirs

And most of the answers are "Yes"!

Ease-of-use is best understood by reading our documentation and trying to
set up your own data collection system.

··· -------------------------- w.r.t. update cycle.

Updates occur:

(1) on an as-needed basis to fix issues that arise with newer operating
systems or device configurations.

(2) as new features are contributed back to the main codebase from the
community.

(3) as new language translations are provided for the tools by the
community.

In general, this has meant a release every 3-4 months. We generally try to
update the versions of all tools at one time (e.g., the collective 1.4.5
release of ODK Collect, ODK Aggregate, ODK Validate, ODK Briefcase, and an
update to the XLSForm tool).

There is generally forward/backward compatibility as long as the new
features are not used.

The 2.0 tools are not yet 'release quality'.
Start with the 1.x tools.
