Getting ODK started - Problems: Java and Google App Engine

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting ODK started and I'm using a Macbook. First of
all, I downloaded Java 7 times today (and closed the browser and restarted
my laptop each time).
Secondly, when I get the App Engine started, it fails to install because
Java is not installed -- although I even verified it on the Java web page.

Also, the instructions on the online ODK (under the Aggregate section) are
not aligned with what I see on the Google Engine App. When I get to the
point of generating an URL for my aggregate as shown in the picture, I just
can see different settings such as "download X", "try Y".

I repeated this process five times today, and I really wish I'll be able to
upload my Excel forms very soon and smoothly.

Thanks for helping!

Your e-mail is using names incorrectly and/or interchangeably which makes
it hard to follow.

ยทยทยท ===========================

Getting MacOSX to recognize and use Java 7 is a generic, general, problem.
I assume you followed the various links on our instructions (

-- step 1 ) and did web searches to get this to work.

Until you have Java installed and recognized, you would not have been able
to proceed, so... CONGRATULATIONS!

We regret this hassle -- it seems to have arisen from a disagreement
between Apple and Oracle and/or the open source community (Apple is
tightening security to the point where anything installed on a Mac will
likely need to go through an Apple vetting process, much like the apps that
go on the iPhone store).

Once you do have Java installed and recognized, you would download the "ODK
Aggregate Installer" and run that installer (not "App Engine").

On the website (via the above link), the instructions direct you to the
"Google Cloud Platform" site to create a project. (NOT "Google Engine App").

Step 4 on that site is still correct, as is Step 5.

There is no "Download X" or "try Y" choice. What step are you referring
to?
