No. The newer 2.0 tools will allow this, but not ODK Collect.

Just to add a wee bit more, those two screens are not there just for
show. I believe they are needed to initialize and terminate the form
filling process.

Is there any estimated date for release of v2.0?
We want to have a few closely-followed deployments under our belt before
they move to 'release candidate'.
With the upcoming release of the new version of the tools, we think the
major changes are done for ODK Survey (it will be Beta 2).
ODK Survey has a legacy submissions path to ODK Aggregate, so you can use
it on the device and submit into ODK Aggregate just like ODK Collect can.
We are still refining the form design environment, but a compelling
platform for that is now taking shape.
We will be at alpha 2 for ODK Tables and the new submission path to ODK
Aggregate. We have to study and cross-check the sync protocol between the
two, and we have some rearranging to do on ODK Aggregate, and need to add
external publishers and exports to the new ODK Tables datastructures.
