Hello everyone,

I live in Nairobi, Kenya and work with an organization called Ona. Ona is a social enterprise located in Kenya and Washington DC, and provides technological solutions to users.

My work at Ona involves providing support to users of the Ona platform in authoring XLSForms, recommending best practices of XLSForm authoring, and troubleshooting for issues encountered by users when using ODK Collect.

I learnt of the ODK Community in Nov of 2018 when I joined Ona and it has been of immense help in providing solutions to issues raised by clients.

I’m a fun of the outdoors. I love taking walks and going hiking. You will find me watching movies and listening to music I can dance to or sing along to whenever I’m indoors.

My name is Cornelius Murombedzi from Zimbabwe, currently based in the UK. I am a development practitioner and once in a while do research. Had of ODK about 3 years ago but have literally been afraid to explore it. Have decided to take the leap to set up ODK to start using it to collect data, analyse and generate reports. Will need support to effectively navigate all the corners and get it running.

Hi Nat here. I am from Perth Western Australia. I have been in mapping and spatial science for 20+ years and have worked with many softwares in this field. I am keen to see data collection and mapping in the hands of the many. Internationally there is tonnes of environmental and climate data available but the stories told with these data are still led by government and scientists. I would like to see communities making their own maps to show their own stories. I currently spend my holidays teaching students and Indigenous communities how to collect the data and make maps they are interested in. I am new to ODK and am interested to see if this software and process can help get mapping and data collection into community hands.

We work with local institutions collecting hydrological data from small basins, in that sence when i found about ODK i realized that it could be a really useful tool to make collecting and sistematization of data more easy.

Hi all! I’m an epidemiologist and long-time ODK fan (though late to the forum). I’ve been using ODK since 2012 for a range of health surveys in Kenya, Nigeria, Chad, and Niger, and currently working on an Agriculture/Nutrition/Supply chain data collection tool for a project in Senegal. I’m currently Washington, DC-based as Chief Science Officer with an NGO that provides open sat/aerial and UV imagery (Radiant.Earth). Our goal is to provide low-friction access to remote sensing data and analytical tools for the development/humanitarian community. As our work is sector-agnostic (i.e., we work in Ag, Health, Conservation, Human Rights, Conservation, Climate Change, etc.), I am particularly interested in opportunities to collaborate on/develop/share groundtruth datasets and image libraries for machine learning. Lots of data silos to be bridged! [Here are some slides from a symposium and workshop we hosted in the Fall at IMED to give you an idea of some of the work we support]. Would love to hear and learn more from the community about research involving remote sensing data…Also really interested in qual and quant research methods and error measurement.

Am otherwise shooting photos, in the kitchen baking, or brewing up a storm. Glad to be here!

Hi all!!

I am Brian Karemba a Brewer and programming enthusiast based in Harare Zimbabwe. I have been using ODK for the past 2 or so years now, primarily to collect data in my organization's market. I am currently working on extending its use into other areas in the organization and on a few personal projects.

You can follow me on Twitter @VaKaremba.

I enjoy programming in Java and Python and the occasional scrimmage of basketball.

Apparently I never did this?? been working on this a year :flushed:

  • Where you are typically based
    Denver, CO, USA

  • How you got involved with the ODK community (ODK origin stories!)
I started off as an international development student at DU (2012) and worked a non-technical corporate admin position for about 3 1/2 not so great years. I kept looking for ways to use my degree to do something cool, until that admin position let me go, advising me that "something in technology" might appeal to me more. God works in crazy ways, especially at our lowest. At my first tech meetup I met a guy that ran an international non-profit who encouraged me to dive into programming if I really liked it, and turns out I really did! One of the projects he had mentioned was Open Data Kit, and here I am!

  • What kinds of ODK projects you have been involved in
Pretty much just bug fixing on pyxforms given my python backgorund

  • Your blog/Twitter/GitHub/other way for the community to follow you
    https://github.com/keynesyoudigit

  • Some of your favorite things to do outside of data collection!
Church, Skiing, Video Games (maining Zen on Overwatch right now, come friend me! name is R3pich3p), travel (need to get some more of this in uggg)

  • [insert your own fun fact here]
    erm...... hablo espanol?

Hi! I am C. Vasanth from Hyderabad, Telangana, India. I am a Linux system administrator and a database programmer assiting an NGO in setting up a Management Information System to monitor critical indicators in socio-economic development programs implemented in several rural areas in India. ODK was used earlier by this organization (APMAS) that I work for before I joined and I am a now trying to understand how it works as I see ODK as a potentially efficient and economical tool for gathering data. I am using a shell script to export the data from a Google sheet and inserting it into a mariadb database for further analysis using PHP / Javascript . Looking forward to learning from the forum here.
