Limit column size for text

Hello good people

I want to find out if there is a way you can design your forms so that when
the tables are created on the database you have the capacity to limit the
size allocated to the text columns .An Example in particular is a column
like first name i noticed by default all text columns are defaulted to
varchar(255) , what i want is to be able to have this created with my
prefered value e.g. varchar(20) . If i am correct this is the reason why
ODK will create multiple tables for one form since it would have
calculated the worst case scenario's if all columns were to be completed .

I see i can do this on the xml file and manage this ,is there a way of how
i could do this from the excel form in XLSForm besides editing the created
xml file ?
