Making reference to variable names in ODK Web Forms not rendering

1. What is the issue? Please be detailed.
The upgrade to ODK Web Form (ODK Central v2026) has affected most of the functionality in the existing forms. Referencing a variable name in subsequent questions is not rendering

2. What steps can we take to reproduce this issue?

Create a question and refer to the variable name in another question.

3. What have you tried to fix the issue?

I reverted to Enketo, but my form still wouldn't load. I kept getting "Survey ID for this form not found"

4. Upload any forms or screenshots you can share publicly below.

The "--ODK-OUTPUT-STRING-1--" ought to be the variable name that I make reference to from the response provided in the previous question.

I saw a similar output message when i had a hint and a guidance note:

But i am also using Web forms v1.0.3 and have forms that use fields in the labels and they are working OK today, so there must be a difference in our forms.

Hi @David_Otoosakyi . Thanks for reporting this.

The issue is being worked on and will be fixed in the next version in the a few weeks. In the meantime if you wish to continue working with Web Forms, you can work around this bug by changing the text slightly so it doesn't look like it's part of a list. For example, removing the dot after the number 15. Sorry for the inconvenience!

@ahblake The reason it's not impacting you is it only happens when the text starts with a number.
