Is it possible to pull submissions to Briefcase from Aggregate
incrementally, or filter submissions before pulling them? At the moment it
seems that I can only pull all of the submissions from my instance, which
would be tricky if I wanted to do so on a monthly basis to back it up.
Secondly, is it possible to reorganise the data in my briefcase storage
area, on my hard drive? Currently if I rename a folder, or put a group of
instances in a new folder, Briefcase won't find it if I want to push it
back up to Aggregate. So, for example, I can't see that I could organise it
by month on my hard drive unless I accept that I have to put them back into
the default format before pushing them back into Aggregate.
As long as you leave the folders untouched, the next time you pull data
from Aggregate, only the new data will be pulled (it keeps track of what
data it has pulled, and resumes pulling from that point) -- this assumes
you are using the latest ODK Briefcase.
The Pull interaction still scans all data on Aggregate, but ODK Briefcase
skips over any entries that have already been downloaded; this is an
inefficient use of Aggregate, but ensures that we will never skip any data
due to a software bug or logic flaw in either Briefcase or Aggregate.
For all of this to work, it is critical that the ...formDirectory\info.db
file be intact; this is a SmallSQL database that is used to remember which
files have been downloaded.
If you need to keep things organized by date, I would write a command
script that looked at the creation date of the instance folder and
copied/overwrote any contents at an appropriately named location on your
system. but left the ODK Briefcase directories untouched.
