Modifying ODK

Hi guys,

I am an honours student at the university of the Western Cape in South
Africa and I am new to Android development. I need help with my honours
project. The project is about modifying ODK to play videos as questions
instead of text. I would like a finger in the right direction on how I can
go about doing this because, the source code contains multiple classes. I
cannot hire help since this is part of my project and most of the things
needs to be done specifically by me. Thanks in advance.

ODK already supports video clips for question prompts.

So I do not think there is any code change required.

Yes I saw that, but in order to get the video playing you have to click a
button first before the video can play. I want it to start automatically,
and possibly use icons instead of buttons where possible simply because
this project is actually designed for hearing impaired people (deaf) who
understand less text but more signs or sign language. Can you please help
me identify which files provide the layout for the mobile device? Also does
it allow to use video prompts while also getting the response from the user
as video as well?

Samito,

https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/CollectSourceCodeOverview
is the place to get started. Start looking through the widgets and
follow the code from there.

Hi Samito,

If you put autoplay="video" on the question, then the video will start
playing automatically, as soon as you open the question for editing on ODK
collect.

eg. in your xforms code, you can write it like this:

Hi Raghu

Thanks, I will try doing that. Also can I use video prompts while
collecting the response as video as well?
If yes how would I go about doing this in the xforms code.

Samito,

I have only tried a video prompt with a normal Text box question. I haven't
tried a video capture question with a video prompt. You can try it out and
see if it works. Please refer to this link to find out how to define a
video capture and video prompt question:
http://opendatakit.org/help/form-design/examples/

Raghu

Hi Raghu

I will look to it. The thing is I tried it but it didn't succeed using the
spreed sheet as well as ODK build, maybe there is something I am doing
wrong.
