Multiple ODK Servers on Tomcat crashing

Hi,

I have 4 instances of ODK aggregate servers set up on windows 2008,with
mysql installed as well as tomcat 6.0. In the past three days I have been
unable to access all four of them. Any help will be appreciated.

Adah

Hi Adah,

I'm afraid that you'll need to provide far more detail about the problem
(including specifics, errors from your logs, etc.) before anybody will be
able to help much.

We've been able to run many Aggregate instances within separate Tomcat
virtual servers, all on a single Linux box. (I think that we've tested with
a maximum of 250 servers on a single Linux/Tomcat instance.) So it's
definitely possible. However, you will probably need to tweak the
configuration. I ran into some issues in the beginning, and here is one
related discussion in the ODK developers group:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/opendatakit-developers/lv8bc7rd630

Best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I was able to start two of the instances by the sql connector into the
appropriate folder, however two out of the four instances aren't working.
One of which I am meant to use to rollout a huge project in a few days.
Please help as this is now a major pain. We can Skype if that is possible

Kind Regards

what do you mean by 'not working'?

What errors are you seeing in the Tomcat logs (check all of them).

What do you see in the browser?

Where are you in the install process?

Was the server running, and now it isn't?

Did you have forms loaded onto it?

What were you trying to do at the time it failed?

Supplying answers to these questions will give us the context to help you.

Hi Mitch,
Please find my responses below.
a) I get this in the catalina log fine a lot----May 16, 2013 8:29:07 AM
org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext start
SEVERE: Context [/zambia] startup failed due to previous errors
May 16, 2013 8:29:09 AM org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig deployWAR
b) in the browser the error that comes up is:
The requested resource is not available.
http status code 404
c) I had already installed the instances and they were up and running, but
stopped all of a sudden and I did have forms loaded on them, One of them I
even had data come in already. This should answer the last questions.

Kind Regards

Hi Adah,

We might need to see more of the log. The error you quoted mentioned
"previous errors" -- can you find and report any previous errors? Clearly
something is going wrong during start-up.

Hi Chris,

We just rebuilt the server on a linux instance and it seems to have been
stable since then.

Thanks very much for your help
