ODK Build bugs

Dear ODK,
First of all, let me tell you that the ODK build tool is quite good
and like the visual interface to make rapid changes to the form. We
are using ODK Build to prepare a field study related to energy
consumption in rural Mali. As many of the surveyors that will be using
the smart phones only speak french, I have added the French
translation to the form. I noticed the following 'bugs':

  • The translated labels do not saved! When you upload a form with more
language labels ODK build memorizes the English version. And you lose
    your translations!
  • When using select multiple function inside of a group ODK collect
v1.1.5 reports : ' The application ODK Collect (process
org.odk.collect.android) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
The ODK Validate 1.2 reports no problems at all with this form. I
don't know if it related to the translations.
  • When doing a long survey with couple of groups, probably more than
20 questions and 5 groups, and you add a numeric or text question and
drag it all the way up on the list of questions the same problem as
    above arises.
  • As we try different things we saved a lot of different surveys. The
File>Open Form menu does not offer a way to delete unwanted forms and
the pop up list of available surveys keeps to be very long and is not
possible to click or see the last survey.
  • It would great to be able to upload to ODK build your own forms.

thanks a lot for the great work on this application.

Hi Seb:

I'll look into all the issues except the last one—that is too difficult a task to tackle at the moment; there are simply too many ways in which an XForm could come in, and as you can see ODK Build supports a very specific subset and structure of ODK forms. It is on the roadmap, but under the "someday" column.

Re: having to drag a control to the top, you can actually drag the text labels onto the workspace, and it'll just appear where you let go. I'm working at the moment on a tutorial system that should clear up peoples' confusion with Build.

Expect movement on the rest by tonight.

Thanks,
—Clint

Hi Seb:

The language translations bug was a rather dreadful error on my part. Shift-refresh your browser (you won't have to do this soon to get the latest version of Build) and your translations should be saved in the future — sadly, because of the way the system works, the translations you had made are likely now irrecoverable. If you re-add the language and the values don't pop back in, it's already too late. Sorry about that.

The select multiple issues we're aware of and are currently looking into.

Adding a feature to delete forms should be fairly simple, as well as fixing the bugs with the long list. Look for those fixes tomorrow.

Thanks,
