ODK Collect - Location Issue

Hi

I have received this email address if I don't find anything on your website, which is the case.

The issue we encountered with ODK Collect is the following :

When I am filling the form and I want to change the location using the GPS, we got message error : "Unfortunately, ODK Collect has stopped.". Then I thought the GPS doesn't work, therefore I tried an apps using the GPS and it seems to work perfectly. At the end after numerous test we found why it doesn't work. It seems ODK Collect needs a Google Account and you need to run Google Services, otherwise ODK Collect will crash instantaneously when you try to get the location.

For your information, we have Acer Iconia B1-710 running with Android 4.1.2.

So my question is now : Do you think there is another way to enable this option without adding a Google Account ?

Best regards

Hi Pierre,

I'm pretty sure ODK Collect does not need a Google Account to work.
Something else (probably specific to the B1-710) is causing that crash
and a stack trace would help the core team try to fix it.

Can you please file an issue at
https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/list and attach a stack
trace (https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/CollectTroubleshooting)?

You do, however, definitely need Google Services for the "maps" and
"placement-map" appearances of the geo-location widget.

If you cannot run that on your device, remove these appearances, and it
should work.
