ODK Collect Russian

I did a search for localization options for collect and it appears at one time there was Russian language support. But, on 1.4 with my device set to Russian it defaults to English menus in collect. I can translate the strings file myself and learn how to recompile from the source if necessary, but since it seems like someone else has already done this I wanted to check with the group first.

If a Russian version doesn't exist, is there a way for me to submit the translation for inclusion in the next official update.

Thanks!

Please request a Russian translation here:

We will accept it and create one, then supply the translations, and they
will fold into one of the next updates.

With the transition to the new Google Maps API on Android, we had to
include a support library from Google, and that has a russian translation,
and numerous others, which are in the core ODK Collect codebase. It appears
that the presence of the library has falsely caused ODK Collect to claim
that it has those translations.

Hi Mitch,
We're looking at using ODK Collect for a continuous survey / census system in rural Nepal and have recently contributed the necessary Nepali translations on Transifex. I'm wondering what the timeline is for the next update when we could expect Nepali support? We are hoping to get started piloting next month and so we're in a bit of a hurry to test the translated app.
Thanks,
Alex Harsha

I have built a version "rev 1046" of ODK Collect with the latest
translations.

This is not on Google Play. You can download it here:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/opendatakit.downloads/ODK Collect v1.4.4 rev
1046.apk

Once you have adjusted the translations, I can issue another build.

I don't anticipate putting these on Google Play (waiting for several code
changes)

Thanks, Mitch! I so appreciate the fast response.

I had our team in Nepal download the app on their test phone but it seems to only display English. I am assuming that is because the phone settings have only "Hindi" for devanagari text and the ODK Collect is looking for "Nepali" -- but I suppose I could be wrong. (Setting the phone to "Hindi" does not change the translation.) Any thoughts?

Alex

You can download "Locale More Pro" for Android "Locale More - Language
Setting" from WOW App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wowapp.localemorepro&hl=en

There is a manual setup step that you need to do on Android 4.2 and higher
devices in order to enable the setting of a locale using the app. That step
appears safe.

Once you do that step, you can then change to Nepali.

Hi Mitch,
We've got the language set up working in Nepali and have additional modifications to the language file (in Transifex) to make the text more readable on the mobile screens. Is there a way for us to update the app ourselves or is this something you would need to do? Thanks,
Alex
