Odk collect v1.1.5 released!

hey all,

we just pushed odk collect v1.1.5 to the android market and onto the
website. this major release adds image, audio and video as prompts so
you can embed multimedia as part of the question text. we've also
fixed the image taking and memory bugs the community reported and made
the user interface cleaner. you can find full release notes at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/Changelog.

we are shifting to a more rapid release cycle on all our tools. in a
few weeks, we'll ship v1.1.6 with multiple questions per screen and
much easier branding support for implementers. aggregate is also
getting major updates soon. follow our progress at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/Roadmap.

finally, a big thank you to clayton and anton from dimagi for their
work helping us ship multimedia support and to neil from berkeley
human rights center for all the useful information he shares about his
deployments. and to everyone else, thanks for your patience and for
making odk a better project.

cheers,

yaw and carl

Thanks so much to everyone who put this together!

It's perfect timing - we're launching next week and we just updated to
the new version for this week of training to test it out. We'll let
you know how it goes.

I especially appreciate the changes with the saving process at the end
and the menu changes when the back button is pressed - this version is
seeming much more clear for our enumerators for avoiding potential data
loss!

we just pushed out a minor release that will enable collect 1.1.5 to
run on 1.5 devices. you can grab the update from the market and the
website. given the lack of upgrades to 1.6 for some devices, we'll try
our best to keep 1.5 a viable option.

Fantastic. I am looking forward to getting into the bones of it.
Thanks for the shout-out, and to the many ODK users and developers who
are there when you need them.
I will share plans for the media elements of the forms, which can be
used in semi-literate populations to measure awareness of
organizations or programs.
In surveys concerning post-conflict populations, issues of
transitional justice are addressed by international organizations,
like the ICC, and it is one thing to ask a respondent: "Are you aware
of the ICC?". It is another thing to ask "Do you recognize this
image?" and show them the logo for the ICC (or UNHCR, or IRC, or NRC,
or INEPAS, or one of the many acronyms who are acting internationally,
sometimes unaware of their impact or lack thereof).

So, I will share more later of the current deployment in Liberia where
we are doing a nationwide survey, the first to cover all 15 counties,
encompassing more than 4200 surveys, each with more than 300
questions, administered by 44 android carrying enumerators, all built
on the Open Data Kit.

Your Man in Monrovia,

Neil
