ODK Collect with GPS Tracing

Dear ODK community,
We have been working on a modification of ODK-Collect that allows the
collection of GPS traces (in kml format), and which collects areas and
distances for field surveys. It was developed for the immediate needs of
Soild Data Collection systems in Africa (Eric Couper who is on the list,
can give you more details), although hasn't been used out in a real
surveying exercise yet. The development was done thanks to Kristofer
Bjornson opensourcing parts of his Distance-Area-Measurement app, and most
of the ODK wiring was done by Andrew Stiles (cc'ed).

I just wanted to announce it here because there was a request for just such
an app on the mailing list yesterday, and we wanted to ask for more testing
and feedback. I'll be posting to the odk-developers list with a few
technical questions as we proceed (and to explore how much if any should be
pushed back to ODK's core codebase), but the app is available at:
https://bitbucket.org/aostiles/odk-collect-afsis/src/ inside the bin folder.

Uninstall ODK if you have it on your phone, download the apk, enable
third-party installations, and voila! Feel free to send us feedback.

Prabhas,

What do you need to put in your xform / xlsform to enable this?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi there

I was involved a bit in the original testing of this - just wondering if
there has been any progress - as have a need to record shapes for the
second phase of our project

Thanks

Jon

Dear all
Can somebody help me about ODK command which allow me to take the plot
delimitation coordonates with ODK and view this delimitation in google map
see attached file
Best

Merci
Mahamane

Hi

We have just started using smap for shape file drawing - by just replacing
the apspot/aggregate part of the odk set of tools, we are still using odk
collect as the front end data collection app on the phone - as the 32
community recorders we have on our project in Guyana are trained in and
used to the interface and operation etc. so for us it has worked seemlessly.

The shapes are captured as points, and then transfer into any GIS system
you would want realy easily, together with all the odk collected data.

Would be happy to share experience, chat ove the detail etc

You need to put a node in your xfrom with type gps_trace in it... sorry
forgot to say. Example form is attached.

We built a custom javarosa datatype for this, so it may take a little while
before xlsforms or even ODK aggregate / formhub supports this... just
writing the email on odk-developers to ask about next steps on that front.

Test Form.xml (2.49 KB)

I don't believe we ever managed to complete this. I know that it would be
of huge interest in the agriculture sector. If anyone finds a way to fund
this development, you'll have several (if not dozens) of very grateful
users!

Hi Mahamane,

There is no polygon support in ODK without custom code. If you want
something turnkey, try SMAP
(https://groups.google.com/d/msg/opendatakit/RqrqBJqSNLY/NXt6Wx6wVvwJ)
