[ODK Community] Multiple choice followed by integer answer based on selections from previous question- cascading select?

Hi there and welcome to ODK!

First ask your multiple choice question. Then in a group with
appearance=field-list, put a series of questions about each option,
but make those relevant only when those answers are relevant.

I've attached an example.

I'm trying to write a question set where the first is multiple choice, and the next question is an integer answer based on the selections from the previous question.

So my first question is

  1. Which species have you caught in the last 4 weeks?
  2. How many of each of these species did you catch?

I would like question 2 to present the species selected from question 1, and no other species.

While I know a work around could be 'How many (species x) did you catch in the last 4 weeks', this would require answering a lot of individual questions with zeros- a tedious task for the data collectors to do over and over again.

Any advice would be really appreciated, thank you.

P.s- I'm brand new to ODK so don't understand all the technical issues yet. I am using Excel to create the forms.
