I am testing out the ODK platform and I have a question. I haven't come
across any documentation saying if it is possible to preload a dropdown for
e.g. from existing data that is already in ODK aggregate. I'm using XLSForm
to build forms. I see there is an option through csv but there may be
information that is not known before hand.
Any recommendations on how I can proceed???
Have anyone used ODK for collecting data related to livestock predation?
Please help...
This functionality is not in the standard ODK 1.x tools.
The csv mechanism is for slowly changing or static lists of choices.
You might look at Survey CTO, which has made some extensions to support
this usage.
The ODK 2.0 tools (not yet released) are focused on supporting follow-up
surveys and dynamically shared information among a group of data collectors.

The 2.0 tools won't solve the visualization problem. ODK Tables will
support reporting and graphical displays of data on the device, but these
would be predefined reports and graphs, not ones you can create on-the-fly.
We can't commit to any specific ship date. Our hope is to:
(1) release an alpha/beta in the summer. That release will swap out the use
of jQuery Mobile with bootstrap; we have this on our development tip now,
and it is significantly faster at rendering the survey screens. The change
to bootstrap will not affect your XLS form definitions -- they will
continue to work on the new release. That release will also consolidate all
data access into a new underlying "core service," eliminating the black
deadlock screen issues that occasionally occur on the current and prior
releases. And it will have a restructured directory layout on the device
to make a cleaner separation of read-only config, system files, and data
(e.g., sub-directories for config, system, data and output).
(2) issue a release candidate 3-6 months later (e.g., around the end of the
year).
