ODK Scan - Form Designer question

Hi there,

We have begun looking at the ODK Scan software to see if we can use it scanning paper forms completed in rural health camps for aggregation.

Firstly it looks very good. Last week I trialed it with a one question form made using Form Designer page (http://uw-ictd.github.io/odk-scan-form-designer/) and I was able to save the file, export it and then successfully scan it. Today my colleague and I (independently from each other) designed much more complex forms but neither of us could export the zip file (we could only save it). When you select "export zip" from the File dropdown menu it gives you a pop-up to name it but when you give it a filename and click OK nothing happens. Do you know what the cause of this issue is and how we can overcome it?

In addition, I could not see the "Select image" button mentioned in the second step of "How to add an Image" on this page. Where is this option meant to be on the page?

Thank you very much to the developer team for all your hard work developing this, I hope we can get it out in the field soon.

David

Hi David,

There are a few possibilities that might cause a form to fail to export,
but the most common is an invalid name. Field names must begin with a
letter and contain only letters, digits and '_'. Please check to make sure
all your field names meet these guidelines. For example "3MonthCheckup" is
invalid but "Month_3_Checkup" is fine. If that doesn't fix it you can
attach your saved form to an email reply and I will investigate the issue.

Regarding images, after you select Edit->Images, some of the options in the
top bar should change. You can upload an image with "New Image" option. You
can drag a selection around the area of the image you want to use (which
could include the whole image) and click "Add Selection". Be careful that
your image selection does not exceed the boundaries of the canvas.

Our documentation may be out of date; I will investigate that further.

Regards,
Jeff
