ODK Team

Dear Team,

I am new in developing a questionnaire using ODK I believe this group will
be resourceful.

I am based in Dar es salaam Tanzania, and expecting to conduct a training
to researches who have been using paper means for data collection in their
projects. If there are any resourceful training materials that could
enhance me to facilitate this I will be glad to have them.

Kind regards,
Johannes

Our user documentation is here https://opendatakit.org/

Form documentation is available under the Help tab of that site.

And also at http://xlsform.org/

Hi Johannes? I trained 15 M&E practitioners on designing forms in XLSForm,
deploying form on server, linking devices to server etc.
The training was organized by MAARIFA Consult in Kampala last month.
Another training is scheduled at the beginning of next month.

I will be glad to share with you some of the slides I prepared and used. I
adapted part of the material from a research protocal by IPA.

Dear Team,

I am stuck in excluding negative age as input and even to enforce be below
command.

Age to be greater or equal to 0 but less than 150 and if the household
doesn't know his/he age enumerator should enter 88 or if the household fail
to respond to the question 99 to be entered

Any assistance on this will be appreciated.

Regards,
Johannes

I am assuming you are using XLSForm and starting with the sample XLS file
here: https://opendatakit.org/use/xlsform/

You will notice a constraint in row 5 of that excel spreadsheet:

. <= ${a_integer}

That constraint says that whatever value is entered in the current field
('.') should be less than or equal to the value entered in field
'a_integer'. You refer to other fields with ${fieldname} and to yourself
with . or with ${myfieldname}.

So your constraint would be

. >= 0 and . <= 150

The special entries of 88 or 99 would fall in this range and not be treated
specially.

See https://opendatakit.org/help/form-design/binding/

for all of the expressions that can be used in constraint and relevant
conditions.
