I will be doing a survey with no data connection as the locations are very
remote and we will require GPS for the survey. Is there any way to get a
location without any data connection?

I don't think there should be a problem.
Just to make sure and see for yourself, you can turn off mobile data and WIFI (Airplane mode) and see that you fill surveys with GPS reading, and there's no problem with it.
A potential problem could be, it takes longer time to obtain locations

and not just "A-GPS" or assisted GPS that requires a data connection.

I'm pretty sure the Galaxy Tabs have true GPS, but you should test to make
sure because there are at least 3 devices that people call Galaxy Tab 7.
Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2 to
test.
