Opendatakit.appspot.com server error

Hi everybody,

This is Antonio Zugaldia from PAHO/WHO. We have created a test from with
http://build.opendatakit.org/ and exported the result as a XML.
Unfortunately when we try to upload it to
http://opendatakit.appspot.com/submission we get the following appspot
generic error:

Error: Server Error
The server encountered an error and could not complete your

request.
If the problem persists, please report your problem and mention
this error message and the query that caused it.

Is there any known error with the appspot backend? In the meanwhile, is
there any easy way to use this form copying it locally to our Android
phone?

I am enclosing the XML file for your reference in case it helps.

Many thanks and congrats for your great job!

hi antonio,

we do not allow users to post forms to the
http:/opendatakit.appspot.com demo server. we require all users to
instead setup up their own instances of aggregate. you can find
step-by-step instructions at http://opendatakit.org/use/aggregate/

Thanks Yaw for the prompt response.

Following the instruction you provided we deployed our app engine instance of Aggregate, but we've again found problems.

  1. If we try to upload our form from http://build.opendatakit.org using File -> Export to Aggregate..., after auth'ing with appengine, we get the following message: "{"error":"Something went wrong when trying to post to Aggregate."}".

  2. If we try to upload the XML export from the web interface of our Aggregate instance ("Upload Form") we get: "Error: Problem with JavaRosa Parsing Form:null". If we try from "Upload a Submission" we get the enclosed Java exception dump.

The form is the same I attached to my original message.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Many thanks,

A.

Download the ODK Validate tool
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/downloads/list

Verify your XML file is correct. It likely has an error (most likely no
value set for a select one or select many field).

Hi everyone,

I still get the same error mesasge. I installed everything yesterday with
the latest version. Managed to get everything to work with a simple form
(text, number, location, photo) but with a more complex form I would get:

"{"error":"Something went wrong when trying to post to Aggregate."}.

The error message came both when trying to directly exprot to Aggregate
from ODK Build, but also when manually exporting to KML and then importing
in Aggregate.

Now I removed the "Choose One" question and "Select Multiple" question and
the form could be exported to Aggregate without any problem. It looks like
there is a bug with those type of questions.

Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Thanks,

Just a quick note to add that it seems it's problem with the exported XML. We've created a very simple form with only one text field and it worked.

If you think we've hit a bug, we'll be happy to report it to the issues queue.

Which Aggregate are you using? Aggregate 0.9.x or the 1.0 alpha?

Are you uploading the form to your own Aggregate instance ? (i.e., not
opendatakit.appspot.com).

Can you send me your form, or post it to dpaste.com and send the link if
you're comfortable with that?

Mitch

It looks like this might have been some changes made in Aggregate
recently that weren't reflected in Build. Mind giving it another shot
now and seeing if it works? Make sure you shift+refresh the Build page
just to be sure you have the latest version.

Thanks,

Just a quick note to add that it seems it's problem with the exported
XML. We've created a very simple form with only one text field and it
worked.

If you think we've hit a bug, we'll be happy to report it to the
issues queue.

Cheers,

Thanks Yaw for the prompt response.

Following the instruction you provided we deployed our app engine
instance of Aggregate, but we've again found problems.

  1. If we try to upload our form from http://build.opendatakit.org
using File -> Export to Aggregate..., after auth'ing with appengine, we
get the following message: "{"error":"Something went wrong when trying
    to post to Aggregate."}".

  2. If we try to upload the XML export from the web interface of our
Aggregate instance ("Upload Form") we get: "Error: Problem with JavaRosa
Parsing Form:null". If we try from "Upload a Submission" we get the
    enclosed Java exception dump.

The form is the same I attached to my original message.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Many thanks,

A.

hi antonio,

we do not allow users to post forms to the
http:/opendatakit.appspot.com demo server. we require all users to
instead setup up their own instances of aggregate. you can find
step-by-step instructions at http://opendatakit.org/use/aggregate/

Hi everybody,

This is Antonio Zugaldia from PAHO/WHO. We have created a test from
with http://build.opendatakit.org/ and exported the result as a XML.
Unfortunately when we try to upload it to
http://opendatakit.appspot.com/submission we get the following
appspot
generic error:

   Error: Server Error
The server encountered an error and could not complete your

request.
If the problem persists, please report your problem and
mention
this error message and the query that caused it.

Is there any known error with the appspot backend? In the meanwhile,
is there any easy way to use this form copying it locally to our
Android phone?

I am enclosing the XML file for your reference in case it helps.

Many thanks and congrats for your great job!
