Pre-population in ODK 2.0

Hello!

Our organization uses ODK to collect data at three independent in-person checks that a given household has to clear before receiving transfers. Once the HH is surveyed by the first team, the second team needs to select the household's unique ID number from a drop down menu at the beginning of the survey. We therefore need to pre-populate that drop down (and in the future the drop down would pre-populate itself based on completed surveys from team #1).

I've read about "tables" which seems like it should enable this sort of thing, but we also want to make sure that only this one single number from the prior team is visible to the following team. Each team is meant to make a completely independent assessment.

Is that feature going to be available in the 2.0 version? When do people estimate that the feature would be available?

Best,
Carolina

Carolina,

The ability to pre-load data into a form has been a feature of SurveyCTO
for a while, and it will also be in the next ODK 1.x release (no ETA yet).
This sort of thing is an incredibly common requirement, and you don't
necessarily need to wait for ODK 2.0. (ODK 2.0 will allow a much richer
platform for bidirectional data flows, but it doesn't sound like you
necessarily need all that.)

Best,

Chris

I agree with Chris -- you can do this with the next ODK 1.x release. That
is slated for the end of April.

Chris: we'll need to document this feature -- either with a link to your
documentation, or transferring that onto the opendatakit.org site --
thoughts?

Mitch,

We included the docs in our push to one of the repos, so you can just take
that. We already removed links to our other topics and samples. Please just
let me know if you don't see it...

Thanks,

Chris
