Problems with the new release

Hi All,

The new version of ODK Collect crashes for us (Ona users) when formList is
called if there are any existing forms. To avoid this you have to delete
all existing forms.

We are trying to troubleshoot and will send detailed findings shortly.

Wanted to see if this was occurring for other people. This is a pretty
critical issue for us. Nothing has changed on our end so trying to
understand what changed on the ODK Collect side with the new release.

Thanks,

Matt

Yes Matt, this happened to us too. But since we have our own LAMP based
aggregate, I didn't know if it was something on our end. Happens with both
Android 5.0.1 and 4.4.2.

Hello Matt,
What did you find out about this crashing behavior? We have a LAMP server
and are experiencing this same thing with Collect 1.46 and 1.47 (not 1.45).
I have yet to make a stack trace on what android is doing when it dies
(seems to be independent of Android version).

Very strange. Please send a logcat when you have a chance.

I've made changes based upon a report from Roy Rutto. But the changes don't
make logical sense.

Please try against this test build:

Once you can get me a logcat for the issue on 1051, and I can get
confirmation that the above APK works on your devices, I can push an update.

FYI: I tested on 4.4.2 against ODK Aggregate, and everything worked.

There also seems to be a very large spike in Out-of-Memory errors with
1.4.6 during the reading of a form definition. Looking into the
OpenStreetMap changes to see if anything might have caused a problem
there...

Without a stack trace, there is zero chance of fixing this.

If you cannot provide a stack trace, try deleting the .cache directory.
That might help, or maybe not. But it won't help fix the issue.

Note that the 1.4.7 release was not a "stab in the dark". It has changes
that were identified from stack traces people supplied and from Google Play
crash reports.

Alternatively, you could zip up your /sdcard/odk directory and send it to
me.

And give me info on how to contact your server to download forms.

And tell me what Android OS you are running.

I might be able to configure a device that would replicate the problem.

But I might not -- these things can be timing-dependent and vary with the
power and speed of the devices.

If you want to send me all of this, send it directly to me (
mitchellsundt@gmail.com )

That might help, or maybe not. But it won't help fix the issue.

Note that the 1.4.7 release was not a "stab in the dark". It has changes
that were identified from stack traces people supplied and from Google Play
crash reports.

OK, understood. Am not too technical. Did delete the files in the cache
directory, but no difference. Will see if I can figure out how to get a
trace to send.
