Question Re. ODK and Entering Data

andrew,

i know some folks have been talking about using virtualbox and the
android emulator, but i dunno how far that's gone. it's definitely
possible, but the android emulator is really slow, so it's not going
to be fun. http://code.google.com/p/purcforms/ and
http://xforms.dimagi.com/ might work also, but haven't played with
them. i'm cc'ing the mailing list in case others have ideas.

Is there a way to submit data to a form definition on ODK Aggregate
using a PC?
For example, some users are submitting data from a mobile, but others
have collected data on paper and now want to transcribe it. Is there
an existing way to do this either using an application on the PC or
through a web-based interface?
Do you know if anyone has tried to do this using the Android Emulator?
Don't want to reinvent if someone has already figured this out.

Hi Andrew,

We have two products, TouchForms and TypeForms, that may be able to do what
you required. TouchForms is used for touchscreen based form entry, and
TypeForms is a more keyboard friendly version of the same, both intended to
run out of a web-browser.
You can give it a try at http://xforms.dimagi.com

Caveat: at the above URL you will be unable to directly submit to ODK
aggregate (TF generates xml that you can submit at the end of the entry
session though). We're still working on having it work like that directly
out of the box. However, it is possible to set up your own instance of the
form player by grabbing the code at https://github.com/dimagi/touchforms and
having it point to your Aggregate server (though I am unfamiliar with the
exact details).

Cheers,
Anton
