Referencing data in a different group

Software and hardware versions

Collect v1.4.16.x, Android v5.0.2..
Problem description
I have a project supposed to run over a period of time and therefore I've
created one xlsform with 5 subsections designed as groups. When I fill one
subsection, the form is submitted (which is okay since it's unlikely to
fill data for two stages at a go). Now, how do I reference data in the
filled group such that if a subject died, then it will be omitted in the
next group?

Thank you.

Hi, can you provide a sample form so we can undestand better your situation?

Thanks Angelo

Morning Margaret,

Your use case, involves Case Management and follow up data collection. ODK
1.0 tools are not strong for such use scenarios. You could use the data
preloading feature for follow up data collection.
