See ODK in action, network with dev, global, and maternal health folks in Sept 22 in NYC!

Hi everyone,

As whoever is in charge of @OpenDataKit on Twitter has suggested, I'm
emailing you about an event that will highlight ODK's role in a public
health campaign (www.carbonforwater.com) we recently did in Kenya in a
minidoc we're screening at the event "Blogging For Good" on Sept 22 in
NYC.

We're going to have a great mix of folks in the room, folks very
interested in innovation, mobile media, and the interconnectedness of so
many development issues in Africa and beyond, and those who blog the
stories of everything from clean water to climate change to maternal
health. Ultimately, Carbon For Water was designed to most positively
impact women and girls, as I am sure many ODK projects in public health
do.

I'd copied and pasted the event details below. I would personally love
to meet the contributors at ODK who made the tech backbone of our $30
million campaign possible. I hope to see you there!

Blogging For Good: Connecting Online Audiences to Offline Actions for
Women

Sept 22 6:30 to 9 PM

Westin at Times Square (270 W 43rd St)

Can blogging the stories of women and the challenges

they face in the developing world turn empathy to action here? Three
organizations, ONE, Women Deliver, and Vestergaard Frandsen set out to
prove that social media can be a powerful tool to educate, inform,
inspire, and make real change on issues like HIV/AIDS, maternal health,
child health, clean water, environmental sustainability, and more.

On September 22, join us for an evening of lively

discussion on how to connect a passion for blogging to women's health
and development. Featured panelists will include:

  • Emily McKhann, co-founder of the award-winning web community

www.TheMotherhood.com and participant in the "It Only Takes ONE Mom"
campaign to

Kenya

  • Jennifer James creator of the Mom Bloggers Club and participant in the
"It Only Takes ONE Mom" campaign to Kenya

  • Rachel Cernansky, blogger for Treehugger.com and winner of Women
    Bloggers Deliver campaign to Kenya

  • Janna Oberdorf, director of communications and outreach at Women
    Deliver

  • Elisabeth Willhelm, new media specialist at Vestergaard Frandsen

  • Brian Reich, senior vice president and global editor for Edelman and
author of Shift & Reset: Strategies for Addressing Serious Issues in a
    Connected Society

The evening will also include an exclusive premier of

mini-films from ONE and Vestergaard Frandsen about the experiences of
their featured bloggers and the compelling stories of the women they
met.

Open bar and hors d'oeuvres will follow the panel

discussion and film screening. All attendees will be entered to win an
iPad loaded with women's health information. Space is limited.
