Select multiple with external_choices sheet

1. What is the problem? Be very detailed.
I would like to use select_multiple (select_multiple_external?) with an external_choices sheet, similar to select_one_external

2. What app or server are you using and on what device and operating system? Include version numbers.
latest ODK Collect on ODK Aggregate 1.x

3. What you have you tried to fix the problem?
cannot perform pyxform/xls2xform conversion on xlsx with select_multiple_external

4. What steps can we take to reproduce the problem?

5. Anything else we should know or have? If you have a test form or screenshots or logs, attach below.

I know this was not possible ~2 yrs ago. Am wondering if anything has changed/been updated since then?

Hi @trialsize

unfortunately, it's not possible to use select_multiple_external. External choices work only for select_one. We have an old issue https://github.com/opendatakit/collect/issues/181 reported.
