Sequential Numbering in ODK Forms - any advances?

Hi, I wonder if it is possible to generate sequential numbers for each entry, at least on a single device, at the time that the data is being collected. We need something to work across all instances entered on the device that day, for example. I have seen previous discussions on this, but they are dated (2012, 2013). Wylon posted that there may be some advances on this in the 2.0 version. So are there any updates? Thanks. Denis.

Hi there,

There is no sequential ordering in ODK Collect. If you want this
automated, your best bet is to use the device ID and start/end time.

I'm curious though. Why do you need this feature? What high level
problem does it solve?
