Show current location in Map View

Hi

we have a need for users to go and update already collected records in the
field. Is it possible to get and display the users current location on the
map view so that they can see where they are in relation to a point that
they are to update. Is this possible? I have had a look through the src and
cant fins any examples..any pointers will be appreciated

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

If you use Smap Server (JavaRosa Server) and fieldTask you can do this.
fieldTask wraps around odkCollect to add, among other things,

  • Allocation of tasks, such as to update existing data at a specific
    location
  • Show location on a map of the current user position, allocated tasks,
    completed surveys

You can install your own version of the smap server form here,
http://smaphs.com/downloads.shtml. Some linux knowledge handy. Or contact
me for hosting.

regards

Neil

The placement-map appearance for a geopoint is the closest to doing this,
though this is not the intended use.

Mitch - I see in the documentation

  • The 'placement-map' appearance of the geopoint widget has not yet been
ported from the ODK Collect codebase and is unavailable in ODK Survey.

are there plans in place to do this? we are using odk-survey as we need the

Ah, OK.

We do want to port this, but are working on higher-priority items first.

The absolute earliest is probably 6 months or farther out.

Hi Mitch,

Was the map placement ever ported to ODK Survey? I'd like to use Survey
because of the styling flexibility, but absolutely must have the map too.

Thanks,
James.

Unfortunately, not yet.
No ETA on when that might happen.
Probably not until 2.0 reaches release candidate or release stage.
