Showing Output on a Form

Dear Sirs et Madames,
I have a form with multiple prompts on a single screen where I would
like the question "What was the source of your information?" to appear
at the top. My attempt at doing this is shown below:

                              <group ref="/sero-survey1/groupHIV/

groupSourceOfHIVInformation" appearance="field-list" >

                                                    <output

value="What was the source of your information?"/>

						<input ref="/sero-survey1/groupHIV/groupSourceOfHIVInformation/

radio" >
Radio

Television/Video/Cinema

Posters

However that does not work, nothing is ever output, and am not sure
what my options are if I need to display just plain text on a screen?
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Tumaini

use a normal string prompt, but set the bind so it is read only.

output only works to reference data in a value.
my answer was

examples of things like this are at

Hello Yaw,
I notice that using this method creates empty columns in the postgres
database, is this normal or am I doing it wrong?

Thanks,
Tumaini

Unfortunately, this is expected. The entire form instance is transmitted
to the server, so these intermediate fields are sent in addition to all
your meaningful data fields, and all are stored on the server.

One goal of ODK 2.0 will be to separate the working "scratch" data from the
data actually transmitted to the server so that everyone has more
flexibility in the presentation of the form screens and questions.
