Size of text field

Hi All,
I use ODK collect to pick my data which is submitted to a local server that
is running MYSQL 5

I have a text field in ODK collect, from MYSQL the field size of this
particular field is VARCHAR(255)
Any time data is sent that exceeds 255 characters its truncated. meaning
for all the past submissions that I have am storing half data.
Is there anyway around this for the existing data (is there a way i can
view the truncated text)
Is there anyway around for the subsequent submissions
Any Help will be much appreciated as am already collecting the data
