Text Field with Appearance = Numbers not Working

Hi,

I'm using XLSForm to create my xform and have a text field with the
appearance set to number (like in the Widget sample). When I enter in
a string into the field which includes dashes, periods or spaces (I
can't seem to enter in a comma) no value appears to be recorded. When
I am in the field, I see a value but if I scroll away and scroll back
the field is blank. There is also no value in that field in Aggregate.

Am I doing something wrong? I get the same behavior with the Widget
sample. I'm using ODK 1.1.7 on a Galaxy Nexus phone.

Thanks,
Dana

Hi Dana,
The "number" appearance type is not in the XLSForm spec, and I'm not sure
if ODK supports it either. Is there a reason you need it? XLSForm has
integer and decimal question types which might do what you want without all
the bugs. Apologies for the broken sample form. I'm assuming it was "ODK
1.1.7 Widgets" from here: http://formhub.org/formhub_u/.
Regards,
-Nathan

Dana,

This might be an Android 4 locale issue.

Could you please attach the form (both the XLS and XML) that is giving
you problems to this bug report at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=550.

You can either attach your particular form or make a sample form that
shows the problem. If the form can't be made public, email it to me.

In the email or bug report, be detailed about which question has the
problem, and the input we need to give it to reproduce that behavior.
Also, include the locale of your phone (in Settings, under Language &
Input, what is the language set to?).

Thanks,

Yaw

Hi Nathan,
You are correct, I downloaded the sample from the formhub university.
Not a big deal that it does not work. I was planning on using this
field to record a parcel land ID that is seperated by dashes, ex:
2-4-22-5. A text string question works fine, it was just nice to have
the larger number pad on the screen.

Hi Yaw,
Not a problem, I can make a sample form and will do my best to provide
the necessary information.

Thanks for the quick answers!
Dana

Hi Paul,

Let's say the name of the prompt for other is called ${q1_other}. You
can put whatever is in that variable in the label of question two. So
for example, "Why do you like ${q1_other}?".
