Time and Geo Series Data Capture

Hello,

Thanks for your awesome work on this open data system. I'm a newer student to the discipline and have two quick questions:

  1. What is the best way to capture time-series data (start button, record duration, stop button) with ODK?

  2. What is the best way to capture geo-series data (start GPS, sample/record path, stop GPS) with ODK?

To me, this functionality would be a huge benefit to a bunch of projects.

Take care,

Eric

Hi Eric,

  1. Best you can do is record the start and end time of the form.
Anything beyond that requires custom code in ODK Collect. You can file
    a feature request at https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/list
or hire a developer at https://opendatakit.org/help/help-for-hire.

  2. Best you can do currently is record a point. There is ongoing work
to add support for paths and polygons in ODK. See
    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/opendatakit-developers/AfVgKcpE6Jk
    for the discussion.

You can also use smap server, http://blog.smap.com.au/, to capture polygons
and line strings using odkcollect or enketo on your device. This setup is
being used to record the boundaries of farm plots in guyana and Brazil. As
per this video.

need to skip forward a bit)
