I've been trying to use the current Android emulator (R13) to test some
forms following these ODK
instructions[http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/DevelopmentEnvironment](http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/DevelopmentEnvironment)and
have had nothing but trouble with collecting GPS data - whenever I
record a location, the virtual device reboots. Before throwing in the
towel, I was wondering if anyone has this working?

My test environment looks like this:

- Mac OS X 10.7.1
- Android Emulator R13
- Android 2.3.3 virtual device (API Level 10)
- Collect v1.1.5

To set the location, I boot the device, telnet to localhost 5554 and run
"geo fix -121.45356 46.51119." To make sure it wasn't my form, I created a
test form [http://dpaste.com/hold/623567/](http://dpaste.com/hold/623567/) with ODK build that only collects
a single location. Others have
reported[http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2545&can=1&q=gps%20emulator&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars](http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2545&can=1&q=gps%20emulator&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars)
similar[http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=915&can=1&q=location%20emulator&sort=-stars&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars](http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=915&can=1&q=location%20emulator&sort=-stars&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars)
problems[http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4985529/android-2-3-emulator-crashes-when-updating-location](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4985529/android-2-3-emulator-crashes-when-updating-location)with
location based services on the emulator, but am hoping that someone
has
a workaround.

Thanks

hey patrick,

the android emulator is buggy. the workaround is to use a real device.
maybe grab a used one on craigslist or ebay?

Thanks for the info. Maybe update these[http://opendatakit.org/use/collect/](http://opendatakit.org/use/collect/)
pages [http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/DevelopmentEnvironment](http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/DevelopmentEnvironment)with
that tip? Could save others some headache.
