Uploading aggregate on mac

Hi I am having problems uploading aggregate on a mac. When the command terminal prompts me to enter the password it will not let me enter it and then I get a message about java version not being determined:

Please enter the email account that created or
that can update your ODK Aggregate application.

Email account (e.g., user@gmail.com): BVODKDEMO@gmail.com
Email account password:
Warning: unable to determine Java version
No Java runtime present, requesting install.
---END-SCRIPT-FAILURE---
Press any key to close window . . .

Why can I not enter the password? Why can it not find java - i have installed and installed the runtime plugin and rebooted?

Please help!

You need to install the JRE, not the plugin. Try
https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp

It might be helpful to change Yaw's post to state that "JDK" rather than "JRE" needs to be installed, as explained at the link that Mitch provided.

When the script prompts for the password, it does not echo the characters
back to the screen. You are entering them, it is just that they are not
being displayed.

That's the old-school way passwords were hidden.

It wasn't until the mid '90s that tools began to display a '*' for each
typed character. And that was largely because of the rise of the web.

··· =============== In any case, as Yaw states, you need to get Java installed. Then try the script again. Our install instructions are here: http://opendatakit.org/use/aggregate/#Installing_an_App_Engine_Instance

Yaw,

I am having the same problem as bdvod, but I have already installed JRE
from the link that you provided. How do I get the aggregate deployment
script to recognize that Java is already installed?

Thanks in advance,
Maral

ah, good catch. Yes, JDK is required. Thanks!

Hi Maral,

Java is probably not installed or can't be found. What happens if you
open the Terminal.app and run "java -version". Do you get something
like this?

$ java -version
java version "1.8.0_66"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_66-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.66-b17, mixed mode)
