Add a New Widget

Hi all,

I've been planning to add a QR scanner widget to the ODK collect
widget set. If anyone has any comments or suggestion on this please
let me know. And also since i am new to ODK collect i would really
appreciate it if i could get some pointers on how to proceed in doing
this.

Regards,

the existing barcode scanning widget can qr codes. it also supports
upc-a, upc-e, ean-8, ean-13, code 39, code 93, code 128, itf, codabar,
rss-14, data matrix, pdf 417, and aztec.

wanted to start of by adding a widget to it. Any suggestions are
welcomed.

thanks for offering to help!

one thing we need is someone to check to see if the dynamic selects
that have been added to the javarosa-core are working in odk collect.

first, read https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/javarosa-developers/eEAyytjIeS4.
then, download and build the javarosa core libraries. add them to
collect and let us know if everything is working ok.

if that doesn't sound exciting enough, we have plenty of bugs at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/list that need work...

Wow! I have a suggestion. Sketch image. That is, a widget that would allow
the Xform creator to specify an image in the form directory and in collect,
the user would be able to choose, let's stay simple for the moment, either a
red, blue, or yellow pen and draw on top of the image. This would allow for
example, a picture of the human body (or a drawing) and ask someone to draw
a circle, X, square, arrow, or whatever on top of the image to indicate
information. Example, "Circle in red where there are any lacerations. Draw a
yellow arrow where there is jaundice." Not sure what is the best data to
send back (Yaw?), just the lines and cirlces drawn or the whole thing. I
would think the next step would be Picture and draw widget which would allow
the person to take a picture with the camera and draw circles, lines, and
arrows on top of it. But that can be your second widget ; )

I like the idea of a sketch widget. Similarly, it would be helpful if
someone could draw their signature on the phone/tablet using a stylus
and this could be saved as an image. This would allow for digital
capture of informed consent and could massively reduce paper-flow for
researchers using ODK. Is this possible yet?

Zak,
Sounds like we are talking about the same thing. The "signature" would
merely be the case when an image is not specified in the tag -- that is, the
background would be white because there is no image. Further, if the widget
designer decided to allow, say pen color attributes in the element, then for
a signature, one would would set the attribute pen to black and not include
and image.
