Android on a Nomad Trimble as part of a pilot

Hi all

I am running a pilot with a number of rugged phones as part of our MRV
project in Guyana - and seeing how they compare with the Nomad
Trimble.

The rugged phones I have to test are all IP67 certified which means
they will withstand water to a depth of 1 meter for half an hour (we
have put one in a bucket of water to test and then called the phone
and it rang!). The phones I will be using are a Sony Ericsson Xperia
Active, Motorola DEFY+ and a Samsung Galaxy Extreme.

But I also have just had delivered a Nomad Trimble running Android 2.1
and I am struggling a bit in finding documentation to help set it up.
There doesnt seem to be an app store so I have been looking at

and simple thing like opertaion of the buttons etc. Has anyone got a
Nomad running ODK and can help with any set up advice or documentation

  • would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

Jon,

Not many people have Trimbles (myself included), but if it's like any
other Android device, you'll need to install the Android developer
tools first on your computer then push apks to the device that way.
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html#setting-up
is a good place to start. Steps 2-4 are the ones you need to follow.

It's also probably a good idea to talk to SDG Systems at
http://sdgsystems.com. They have some docs on their site that might
help, but an email to their support team would likely be faster.
